Description
The Hifiman Sundara Silver is an update to its predecessor Hifiman Sundara, which first hit the market in 2018. The new model has focused on improving tonal balance by solving the problem of the overwhelming treble that the original headset was known for. Improvements have also been made to the damping of the diaphragm, which should lead to better tonal balance, while preserving the open character of the sound. The manufacturer has also paid attention to improvements to the 'mechanical' aspects of the headset, including changes to the headband and ear foams to ensure even greater wearing comfort. The Sundara Silver comes with a matching carrying case, a three-metre connection cable and a 3.5-6.35mm adapter. The frequency range is between 6 Hz and 75 kHz.
Sundara Silver are well-built with premium materials and comfortable even during longer listening sessions. They are relatively balanced in their tonality and have good technical ability. However, the treble may be more prominent than some would prefer, and the supplied cable may be of better quality and is best supplemented with a TPHC headphone cable that sounds and lasts better.
It has a moderately wide soundstage, with more lateral extension than depth. The instruments are very well separated from each other, even in more complex tracks.
The Hifiman Sundara Silver offers deep, physical bass. They reach ~40 Hz with good presence and then roll off further downwards. The bass is detailed and well-textured, with different layers presented in a coherent manner and without significant negative interactions between them.
