REFERENCE PERFORMANCE FOR MEDIUM SIZE
Where previous special editions have used existing cabinets, drivers and filters, the Carbon Special uses many elements developed exclusively for the Carbon Special. They use the newest BlackWidow 12" (350 mm) carbon fiber element, developed to deliver superior dynamic balance throughout the range of its substantial 4" (100 mm) front and rear travel. It's better at handling the enormous power required to deliver explosive dynamics. REL paired it with the NextGen 5, a 1,000 watt amplifier that has proven to be both a sonic marvel and completely reliable. All of this is controlled by a CS PerfectFilter, a custom-designed version of the latest evolution of filters that enhances both ends of the spectrum. It delivers airy, delicate peaks with greater range to the lower regions of the soundstage, as well as truer, more powerful ultra-low bass delivery. If that sounds too good to be true, it almost is.
The cabin extends deeper than previous mid-size chassis designs to optimise performance for this new driver complement. And its look is delivered in a refined, mature way with subtle use of carbon fiber detailing sprinkled among chrome and polished stainless steel accents. REL believes the Carbon Special will be one of the most sought-after ultra-high-performance subwoofers of all time.
