Groundhog+ from iFi audio is a ground loop isolator for audio systems. It is designed to address and eliminate the annoying buzz or hum that some audio systems can have, especially when they lack a ground connection.
This device works by grounding your audio system, reducing noise and potentially improving sound quality by adding resolution, bass and musicality to your music. It is designed to be customisable and works with a variety of devices thanks to its different adapters:
- RCA base cable: For any audio system with an unused RCA jack.
- USB converter: For computer systems.
- Spade converter: For power supplies with a DC barrel connector.
- 3.5 mm Y-converter: For portable devices with an unused 3.5 mm connection.
The Groundhog+ can be paired with the AC iPurifier from iFi for a more comprehensive solution to noisy power. The AC iPurifier works to remove electromagnetic or radio frequency interference from your system, while the Groundhog+ provides grounding. This combination not only restores the protection offered by Groundhog+, but also helps prevent external interference.
Ground or earth loops in an electrical system occur when two points in an audio system both have a ground reference, resulting in a "potential voltage difference" between them. These loops are a significant cause of noise, hum and interference in audio, video and computer systems. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) are common sources of such interference. Groundhog+ helps to alleviate these problems by providing an effective ground connection.
