Design and aesthetics
The Classic 99 builds on the legacy of the Classic 98, but takes it even further - some 40 % more volume and more powerful performance. The cabinet walls are up to 32 mm thick and covered with exclusive dark walnut veneer, carefully hand-assembled for an elegant and warm finish. The discreet aluminium logo and the softly rounded feet in machine-milled black metal contribute to a luxurious but sober design .

Technology and performance
Equipped with a 12-inch long-stroke paper-on-paper driver in a downward-facing sealed design, driven by a 450W Class D amplifier, the Classic 99 delivers more power and depth than its predecessor. Connectivity and integration
REL is renowned for its unique high-level connection via Neutrik Speakon cable, ensuring that the subwoofer receives exactly the same signal as the main speakers - a key ingredient in its musicality. In addition, standard low-level RCA inputs are available, as well as a dedicated .1/LFE input with its own level control, and phase control is also available. For wireless use, it can be combined with REL's AirShip II or HT-Air Mk II, which provide high-quality, low-latency wireless transmission at 5.8 GHz .

Performance in practice
Classick 99 is built for medium to large rooms (150-400 ft² / 14-37 m²), where it fills the room with rich, natural and full-bodied bass. Reviewers praise its musicality and how it enhances the soundstage without masking the character of the main speakers - amplifying what's already there, rather than taking over. One reviewer described the experience:

"...additional impact with the drumbeats, but also a touch more warmth and body in the bass notes. There was no discontinuity between the speakers and subwoofer..."

It has been compared to much more expensive models and is rated as one of the most musical subwoofers in the REL range.
