The Lab 12 Gordian is a streamline filter\/quality analyser designed to provide a range of information and functions to the user. It has a fairly simple design with a standard size chassis and a clear and easy to understand user interface. Its most prominent feature is the OLED-based screen, centred on the front panel, where all the necessary information and menu items are displayed.<\/p>\n

Gordian follows Lab12's penchant for simple and easy-to-use designs. The large OLED screen offers a variety of power quality measurements and also displays the menu that the user should use to access various settings. Through the menu, the user has access to a variety of information and functions, including the ability to check some basic values of the grid such as voltage, current, frequency and electrical power. The user can also perform a distortion analysis of voltage and current waveforms, measure the DC component and power factor, and finally measure high frequency noise (EMI).<\/p>\n

Another important feature that Gordian offers is the ability for the user to perform tests to ensure that the Gordian's correct polarity connection to the mains and that the earthing path is both functional and sufficiently low resistance.<\/p>\n

On the back of the unit there are six heavy duty sockets divided into two groups. The high-power group consists of two sockets with a maximum current of 15A and a filter network with a slightly smaller attenuation capacity, while the low-power group consists of four sockets with a maximum current of 4A and a more efficient filter. Overall, the unit can handle up to 20A.<\/p>\n

Inside its chassis, Gordian hides a rather interesting and complex construction at the centre of which is its streamline filter. The filter topology is determined by relays, which are controlled by the user's menu items, in real time. The largest part of the circuit board is occupied by the power quality analyser. This is probably the most interesting part of the device and it is the part of the circuit that offers the rather wide range of Gordian's functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The producer claims that Gordian does not worsen the dynamics. Gordian is a device that I have not seen in my career yet. I have seen similar ones – bigger, heavier, more expensive and more mysterious, shrouded in a fog of mysticism, but I have not yet dealt with a conditioner so intelligent, technically advanced and breaking all the rules. If the Gordian had a chassis three times larger and heavier, and it had been made by one of the world’s leading hi-end amplifier manufacturers, many audiophiles would have paid 10,000 dollars for it, by the way, ordering a few cables for the same amount[\u2026\u2026.]<\/p>\n
